7th January, 2004. 10:36 am. Pouring rain

We've gone thru every possible weather the past few days, well, except for balmy sunny skies, but it has even been mild.

Since Monday, it's basically snowed and snowed, probably a couple of feet worth. Overnight, 35 more cm's of snow fell from the sky and it was a heavier, stickier mass than the previous day. I had shovelled the driveway twice yesterday and was in the process of doing it again this morning, so I could take the dogs out of the house and then go to work (I'd planned to walk in this morning as I was sure the roads would be pretty bad) when Jo opened the front door and advised me that she'd had a call telling me not to go in today as the base was basically shut down.

They were focussing their efforts on keeping the runways clear so maybe the airport wouldn't have to close. So, happy about that, I finished shovelling the driveway, tried to take the dogs out. But the snow was so deep on the road, they couldn't make much headway and we only got about 100 yards up the street before we turned back. Poor puppies.

Since that time, the snow has turned to fairly heavy rain and gusty high winds. The good thing is that it's shaken all of the heavy snow off of the trees, but it's going to get really messy now. We'll see about work in the morning, I guess.

Poor Sue hasn't really been able to see much the past couple of days, as we've been hesitant to drive around too much with the road conditions being so poor. But at least she's been able to relax, the point of going on vacation, eh?

Hopefully, it'll be a bit better in a couple of days. But today I'm going to be happy and watch mid week footie on the tube at noon... :0)

Have a great Wednesday, whereever you might be.

Current mood: calm.
Current music: some decorating show.....

1st January, 2004. 12:30 pm. Happy New Year...

So here you are..another Christmas is over, and I have to say it's been a pretty good one.
Christmas day and Boxing day were quiet, but a lot of fun...
I got my palm sander, but not my blender..
Not that I'm too bothered..hubby delivered loads of other lovely stuff: perfume that I'd run out of, some vintage Xmas dec's I said I liked when we were in a shop weeks ago, votive holder's, a couple of books, a truly beautiful cranberry coloured leather box with two crystal and silver cologne bottles inside, and a huge *wild cherry* scented candle that I'd asked for.
Mr got mostly clothes, t-shirts, trousers, pants and socks, [ which he badly needed :P ] a couple of books, some aftershave balm, and a watch. [ Let's hope he doesn't lose this one !! ]

On Sunday we went down to Victoria to collect my sister, [ who's come to stay for a month,] off the ferry from Seattle.
The journey down was a bit hairy, since there had been some snow round Nanaimo, and being so early in the morning, the gritters and plows hadn't had a chance to get out yet. The light was terrible and it was more than a touch hair raising.
But the snow only lasted 10 miles or so and the rest of the way it was clear and sunny, so we got there OK. On the way back the snow had mostly melted in the sun so we had no trouble at all.
We've had snow here too the last couple of days which is very unusual for this part of the country, but it made the whole place soooooooooooooooooooo beautiful.
Today was just glorious, bright sunshine and blue sky, and the snow still lying everywhere...looked just like a chocolate box....

Ok, off to play daft board games with the family....

Congratulations to Kurt from Norway on his World Idol win....it was well deserved.

Finally to all our friends and family all over the World...
Have a fantastic, successful and peaceful New Year

19th December, 2003. 9:20 am. IT'S PARTY TIME!!

Just looking at the calendar for the next couple of days.. busy, busy, busy.. but in a great way.

Yesterday was my section party. It was a very nice time. Everybody brought in food, there were some games, prizes and just good company. Jo arrived around 3ish and enjoyed herself. She does seem to fit in very easily. :0)

We went to see Return of the King in the evening. Great movie. The best of the three. I won't say more in case some of you haven't seen yet, but I am bursting to talk more about it.. Must search out someone at work who has seen.. *g*

Tonight, we've got people from work coming over for drinkies and food and conversation. The first real gathering we've had at the new place. I'll try and leave a bit early to help the missus get things ready. Tomorrow, we're going to one of my Warrant Officer's homes for the same sort of thing, then Sunday, our friendly estate agent and her roomie are coming over for dinner and then Monday, another couple are coming over. It's nice being able to celebrate and share a bit of the holiday season and spirit with friends. Makes it even more enjoyable.

Xmas day will be nice, just Jo and I and the puppies. Last year was so nice and relaxing, a perfect time. This should be more of the same..

The girls are each doing their own thing. Well, the oldest is anyway. She's going to her boyfriend's family to celebrate Xmas with them. The youngest will be with her mother. I'll have to make sure to keep in touch with my dad as this will be an especially hard Xmas for him, I think. Good thing my older brother will be going to visit him just after Xmas. I think that will help.

Anyway, must make a show of doing a bit of work... Yay it's Friday

Current mood: calm.
Current music: peacefully quiet.
